Marguerite Walton

Marguerite (Zafris) Walton, 93, a longtime resident of Newbury and graduate of Newburyport High School Class of 1940, passed away on Sunday March 27, 2016 at Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Newburyport.  Marguerite was predeceased by her Husband of 57 years, Keith P. Walton, her sisters; Georgiana Mcdonnell and Eugenia Arsenault, and her parents; James G. Zafris and Marguerite (Russell) Zafris.

 During World War 2 Marguerite was a cadet nurse in training at Beverly Hospital.  She worked at Children's Hospital in Boston, Anna Jaques in Newburyport and Amesbury Hospital during her nursing career. Marguerite enjoyed cross country skiing, snowmobiling and gardening as well as braiding rugs and knitting. Together she and her Husband enjoyed collecting antiques. In later years she enjoyed spending time with friends at the Senior Center in Newbury and having her children, grandchildren and great children visit her at home often. She valued her independence and was able to live on her own at home until recently. 

She is survived by her brother James G. Zafris Jr. of Newburyport, her three children; Keith, Leland and his wife Dawn,and Kim and her husband Mark Tibbetts, all of Newbury. Marguerite is also survived by three grandchildren; Michael Price and his wife Amy, Megan (Walton) Keller and her husband Ryan, Jamie Walton and her fiance Skip Clifford, and five great grandchildren; Katharine and Chloe Price, Kylie Walton Clifford, and Joseph and Taylor Keller.

It was Marguerite's request that no calling hours be held and private services for the family be held at a later time.  Donations can be made to Protection #2 Fire Dept. Morgan Ave. Newbury, MA.
