Marcia C. Haley

Marcia C. Haley of Rowley passed away peacefully on March 16th at Merrimack Valley Hospice House. She was born on February 8, 1927 and was a life-long resident of Rowley. Marcia was the daughter of Herman S. Cressey and Elva (Egler) Cressey and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1944 and of Lasell Junior College and Lynn Burdett Academy. Marcia was a medical secretary for many years, including in the operating room at Salem Hospital. Later she was a kindergarten teacher in Newburyport until she retired.

Marcia was predeceased by her husband Sumner F. Haley, and leaves her daughters, Jill Haley Murphy and husband Michael P. Murphy of Newburyport; Kristen H. Hunter and husband Larry R. Hunter of Rowley; and Gay H. Brown and husband Joe Marella of Newburyport, as well as her beloved grandchildren Caitlin Murphy of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Brendan Murphy of New Haven, Connecticut; Thomas Hunter and his wife Lindsay Locke Hunter of Waco, Texas; Nathan Hunter and his wife Sarah MacDonald Hunter of Rowley; also, James D. Brown IV of Newmarket, New Hampshire; Samuel Brown of Newburyport, and their father, James D. Brown III of Hampton, New Hampshire. Marcia was the great grandmother of three, with another great grandchild due next month. Her brother Robert Cressey of Topsfield survives Marcia. Another brother, Donald Cressey, predeceased her. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many dear friends and neighbors, all of whom were very important to her and who she considered to be part of her extended family.

Marcia loved animals and cared deeply about their welfare.  She requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cape Ann Animal Aid of Gloucester or Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society of Salisbury.

              At Marcia’s request, there will be no calling hours. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later time.
