Robert Lloyd Day “Bucky” passed away on January 3, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving daughters in New Boston, New Hampshire. Robert was born on November 23, 1928, to Robert Charles Day and Verna Arlene Day of Ipswich Ma. He was one of five children and is predeceased by all of his siblings, except his dear sister Letitia.
Robert was the husband of the late Joan Doris (Janvrin)Day, who he married in Rowley, Ma. on October 28th, 1949. He is survived by his six children and their respective partners: Susan (Day) and Alan Rawson of North Woodstock, N.H., Joan Day-Smith and Robert Smith of New Boston N.H., Robert C. Day and Lise Larose of Colchester, Vt., Roberta Day and Christopher Conant of Winooski, Vt., Rebecca Day and John Giebink of South Burlington Vermont and Linda (Day) Levy and Andrew Levy of Littleton, Ma. His 10 grandchildren will miss him dearly and were his greatest joys: Katie, Erin, Bradley, Kimberly, Hannah, Christopher, Emma, Andrew, Elizabeth and Amelia. In addition, he had six beautiful great grandchildren: Teagen, Paige, Marianna, Louisa, Calvin and Vera.
After graduating from Wentworth University, Robert started his career working in the field of electrical technology management for Western Electric in North Andover Ma. He changed careers when his family was young, earning advanced degrees in education from the University of Maine, Portland, and the University of Vermont. He relocated his family to Jericho, Vermont in 1972, to accept a position as the Director of the Center for Technology Education at Essex High School, in Essex Jct., Vermont. He was well respected by his colleagues and the community during his 20-year tenure at Essex.
Robert’s many passions in life included, reading, gardening, woodworking, xc skiing, walking, bird hunting, research in the field of genealogy, music, re-teaching himself calculus at 90, attending the Scottish Highland Games, among many other pursuits. His charm, sharp mind, kindness, wit and loyalty to his family will live on forever in our hearts.
