Richard "Red" Monahan Obituary

Richard “Red” M. Monahan, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. He was the husband of Ellen A. (Keniston) Monahan who passed away on April 28, 2016.

Red was born in Lynn, MA, on December 23, 1933. He was the son of the late Mark and Catherine Monahan. Red graduated from Lynn Trade School in 1952 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United Sates Navy, serving during the Korean War Conflict. Dad often reminisced about his 4 years in the service which afforded him the opportunity to travel to many foreign destinations including the Mediterranean Sea which was his favorite. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and embarked on a career long vocation as a machinist.

He soon met Ellen, and the two sweethearts were married on November 11, 1959. In the next 5 years, four boys were born and the beginning of a loving family was created.  He leaves two brothers, James Barry and his wife Linda, John and his wife Claire, and a sister, Kathleen and her husband John Collins. Three sons, Richard and his wife Liz, their children Meghan and Kyle. Mark and his wife, Debra, their children Patrick and Amanda. Kevin and his wife Palma and their children Craig and Justin. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Michael and his grandson Ricky.

We find it important to extend an incredible debt of gratitude to the Country Center for Health & Rehabilitation and Constellation Hospice where Red spent the last six months of his life. Their compassionate and loving care helped our family through an unbearable situation due to the unfortunate health crisis in the United States. At 3:05 a.m., Tuesday morning, Dad’s bright light flickered-it did not go out-it NEVER will. “Our Dad was everything a Son wanted his Father to be,” Thank you dad, your boys.
