Phyllis A. (MacDonald) Sztramski, 91, of Newburyport, died on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Brigham Manor Nursing Home surrounded by her devoted family. She was the wife of the late Edmund T. Sztramski and the companion of the late Kenneth Rogers.
She was born on August 23, 1927 in Lowell and was the daughter of the late Wendell and Alyce (LaChance) MacDonald. She married Edmund with whom, until his death, she raised 6 children. She graduated from nursing school and worked at Anna Jaques Hospital for many years. Phyllis lived on Plum Island where she enjoyed the ocean and her garden; ultimately retiring to Byfield, where with Kenny, she continued to garden and pursue her love of nature.
Phyllis enjoyed her garden, bird watching, fishing, and hunting antiques. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Council on Aging in Newbury and a member of the former Methodist Church of Byfield.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann S. Chase, her husband, James, and their son, Ethan; five sons, John, Robert, Edmund, David, and Peter Sztramski; three grandchildren; one brother, David MacDonald; two sisters, Ruby Carter and Priscilla Ross. She was predeceased by siblings, Wayne MacDonald and Judith Wiggins.
The family would like to thank all the caring staff and volunteers at Brigham Manor and Care Dimensions Hospice. Phyllis’ final years were made easier and more comfortable by their attention and caring.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 14, from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the F.S. Roberts & Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley. Burial will follow at South Byfield Cemetery.
