Mary "Claire" Gross

Mary Claire (“Claire”) Gross, 90, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, in Rowley, MA.

Claire was a devoted wife to her late husband, Bob, for 55 years. During their marriage, Claire and Bob lived in Dorchester where they raised their three children, Carol, Rob, and Steve, and Claire worked at a job she loved as a teller at the Meetinghouse Bank.  

After Bob passed away in 2007, Claire retired to Linden Ponds in Hingham, where she made a wonderful new life with many new friends. After years of working hard and raising her family, she believed in having fun as often as possible once she reached her “golden years”. She was an avid reader (especially Harlan Coben) and enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, whether taking all the kids to Bermuda, seeing Ireland and England with her girlfriends, or just chilling out on Martha’s Vineyard with her daughter’s family. Every year on her birthday in December, the family gathered at her latest favorite restaurant and often caught the newest play in town.  At Christmas she led everyone in raucous caroling, followed by her favorite card game, Left-Right-Center, where she funded the ante for everyone and made sure that one of her grandkids always won.  A party girl at heart, she was an enthusiastic and graceful dancer. She loved a good glass of Riesling over ice and dining in beautiful restaurants.  Most importantly, Claire adored her family, and they reciprocated her great love. Claire was always funny, smart, happy, loving, and grateful for every moment.

She will be greatly missed, and her memory will live in the hearts of her children and their spouses (Carol and Wolffy; Rob; and Steve and Chrissie), her seven grandchildren and their families (Alex and his wife, Martina; Kate and her wife Tracey; Charlie and his wife Ashley; Briana, Cat and her husband, Alex; Andrew; and Weezie), and her great granddaughter, Millie.
