I think about Ken often. He taught me so much, in so many different ways. I hope to have as big a positive impact on peoples’ lives as Ken.

I was blessed to have had had the opportunity to work with Ken and be a part of his life for a short period of time. I am so saddened to learn that he passed away. He was so full of life and a love for nature. He inspired me to be better for my students and I will never forget him. Sending my love to Leslie.

Ken you taught me it was ok to ask questions and it was ok to mess up, as long as I learnt from it. You took me under your wing and through science class, ice cream sundaes, pizza and science projects you embedded in me a lifelong love of learning. Thanks Ken. Rock on forever. All my love

I went to NYC public school #6 from 1990-1992 and Ken Koga Moriuchi was my teacher in the 6th grade. He organized an extracurricular team called “the science squad”: a few 6th graders that would teach kindergardeners science through fun hands-on activities during their lunch period. Ken was the only person I think at all that noticed I didnt bring a lunch or go out to buy one. He didnt let me shy away from the topic either. I didnt have any money and he insisted against my shyness to buy me a lunch. He did this every day after. It was the most delicious sandwich ever and my favorite to this day. I wanted to look him up to say thank you and when I finally found his contact- he had passed away. I felt terrible that I was to late in my attempts to show my gratitude. To whoever was his family and friends- thank you for helping support such a great person who let one kid know that someone out there cared about me.

Ken... You were my science teacher for most of my childhood. You've left me so inspired and so curious. Because of you I took up science and the healing arts. I'm absolutely devastated to come across this page and almost 25 years later your still my original hero. Sending my love to everyone in your life.

I'm shocked to here that my good friend and freshman roommate from UC Davis passed away. I tried for years to get a hold of him. So sad. We shared a lot of good times together, from playing the guitar, to diving into the swimming pool after our finals with full scuba gear on and letting him choke me out while we practiced judo together. He also took photos of me fighting at the martial arts tournament in San Francisco. We knew each other going back to high school in San Francisco. Once we knew we got into UC Davis, we both decided to room together.
He was always kind, very giving and reliable friend. I will truly miss his guitar playing, he loved Gordon Lightfoot. A good man has gone to heaven, happy travels my friend.
I'll miss you. Gary

When I was a teenager I worked as a volunteer at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, CA. One of the best jobs I ever had. At that time I met you Ken when you were still in school and would come and help us. I will always remember our days of working together, and my trip with you to UC Davis. I just went on line today to follow up with you after all these years, and this is what I found. Larger than life hole that just got inside me. I will always miss you, remember you, but most willing look forward to seeing you on the other side. Take care my friend, until we meet up again!

Phil and I met Ken at UCD. When we graduated from college all three of us ended up in the New York City area, where we all struggled to find our place in the work world.

Ken was always fun and easy going. He loved learning about things and he was always happy to share his knowledge. His laugh was infectious. It always brought a smile to my face. I feel very fortunate to have known such a positive, generous fun loving person.

To Ken's family and loved ones:

We were struck by the news of Ken's passing, which we only got word of today... we remember him fondly for his friendliness and enthusiasm as a Science coach with AUSSIE. We extend our heartfelt condolences to you all.
Ken did what every educator dreams of doing - he left a legacy of enthusiasm for science learning and exploration in the minds of all the teachers and students he met. We remember him also for his generosity: he would spend every second with the students, patiently answering questions, and shared all his materials with us.
We miss him.

Ken has been a friend of Charlie's for over 40 years, since freshman year at UC Davis. He was one of the kindest and most thoughtful people we have ever known. We still listen to playlists he put together for us. For our wedding present, he flew out to California to certify us in scuba diving. We still scuba dive today and think of him every time we do. A few years later he flew out to introduce our children to scuba as well. Our children loved and adored him. He always had a smile on his face and such an infectious laugh. We are so very saddened by his loss.

The first time I met Ken, I was jumping in excitement like a little girl because I had heard so much about how amazing he is. That was the first of many laughs we shared together. Words do little to really describe his genuine and kind hearted character. I can never fully express my gratitude for everything that Ken did for me. I am grateful to have met him and for all the wonderful memories. My deepest condolences to his family.

I'm shocked and devastated to hear about Mr. Ken's passing. I came to know him when I started teaching. I have never seen my students more excited than when Mr. Ken walked into the room. The excitement wasn't just among the students. As teachers, we would count down the days until he would come to our school. He wasn't just a brilliant educator but a genuinely kind human being. He was extraordinary yet humble. I am so grateful to have known him. Thank you Mr.Ken, for everything. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

A Hopi Prayer

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there,
I did not die.

I was saddened to hear of Ken's passing and my thoughts are with his family and his many, many friends. Ken brought a special enthusiasm and curiosity to everything he did whether it was a technical diving expedition or simply a conversation over dinner. I'll remember many things about him but his quick wit and genuine excitement for learning are two that made an indelible mark on me and so many others. Godspeed.

We met Ken at the 'M' Building dorm on the UC Davis campus. Ken was across the hall from Pat his first year at Davis. We knew Ken as an unassuming, quiet, kind person who had many active pursuits (photography, scuba diving, martial arts, etc.).
Our sincere condolences to Ken's family and friends.

In memory of a good friend -
Ken Koga-Moriuchi passed away unexpectedly on Saturday September 17, 2016. He was an inspiring teacher, mentor, colleague, and fellow explorer. I lost a good friend and the world lost a really good person.
Ken, the multitudes you have taught will carry your lessons forward. Those who knew you will remain inspired by your example; and we will always remember the great humility with which you made the world a better place.

Oh dear Ken. It is Dec 21, 2018 and just now I stumbled across the news of your death. I feel a terrible sense of loss and I am beyond shocked that you have left this world.
We spent 3 goofy years together on Cornelia Street. We shared all kinds of silly and deep things with each other. We helped each other through crises with kindness.
What a wonderful sense of humor you had! What an imagination!
I loved the way your nose crinkled when you laughed. It was adorable and endearing although I don't know if I kept it a secret.
And then there's Mr. Frye the parrot whom you bequeathed to me. He was a nut and he stayed with me for many years until I passed him off to my nephews. Then he was adopted by a family in PA. Maybe you and he are together in heaven. I'm so sorry you had an early end. Life is so unjust. I hope you're scuba diving in heaven. I hear they have great seas up there....
