H. Robert Hawkes Obituary

H. Robert Hawkes, 84, of Ipswich, MA died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Sandra A. (Pierce) Hawkes with whom he shared 9 years of marriage.

Bob was born in Dearborn, MI to the late Harold R. and Irene (Cissell) Hawkes. Raised in Lynnfield, MA, Bob was a proud graduate of Wakefield Memorial HS (Class of 1956) and served in the Marines Corps Reserves. After residing in Lynnfield for over 50 years, he moved to Ipswich where he lived for the past 28 years.

Bob was the successful owner and President of Redmond Concrete Construction Co., Inc. of Rowley, MA for 51 years. An accomplished golfer, he was an original and active member of Ipswich Country Club; however, his true passion was shooting sports and the outdoors. He served in many capacities (including club president) over the years at Danvers Fish & Game Club and Minuteman Sportsman’s Club where he was honored with not one but two Lifetime Membership Awards for his contributions. He was an active member of Ducks Unlimited, Inc. and served as North Shore chapter president where he received awards as Area and District Chairman of the Year several times. The Massachusetts Trapshooting Association named him as honoree of the 2015 Massachusetts State Trapshooting Championships. Bob was proud to serve as a shooting coach for the MIT Sporting Clays Association team and was instrumental in growing collegiate clay target shooting in New England.

Bob lived for October in New Brunswick, Canada. His greatest joy was walking alongside his bird dogs through the glorious fall countryside by day as they chased the migrating flights of woodcock. At night a warm fire and the company of family and dear friends in his cabin along the shores of his beloved Washedemoak Lake made him the happiest.

Surviving in addition to his wife Sandra A. Hawkes are two sons, Robert Hawkes Jr. of Rowley, MA, and Laurence Hawkes of Danville, NH, one daughter Debora and her husband Charles Bamforth of East Hampstead, NH, six grandchildren; Craig and Ariana Bamforth, Robert Hawkes III, Allie, Brie and Ava Hawkes and one great‐ granddaughter Sailor Hawkes. He is also survived by his step‐children Kenneth and Michele Langlois and step‐grandchildren Hunter and Hope Langlois. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 51 years G. Dolores Hawkes and his brother David L. Hawkes.

His funeral service and burial were private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Granite VNA, 30 Pillsbury St, Concord, NH, 03301 or Friends of Ipswich Elders Pet Care Program c/o Ipswich Council on Aging, 25 Green St., Ipswich, MA 01938.
