Barbara R. DiMento

Barbara R. (Colby) DiMento, 83, of Rowley, MA passed away peacefully on Friday September 4th, 2020 surrounded by her children.

Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts on March 6, 1937 to Sarah Ethel Marder Colby and Randolph Taylor Colby, she was the youngest of 5 daughters. 

Raised in Winthrop, Barbara attended Winthrop schools, graduating with the Class of 1955.

Barbara dedicated her life to her loving husband Jack, her 7 children, her 10 grandchildren, and was looking forward to welcoming her second great-grandchild. She is survived by her children: William J. Sr. and wife Elizabeth, their children William Jr,. wife Jennifer and son Finley, Brian, and Jenna; Nancy J. Di Mento-Jerome and husband William III, their children William IV and his wife Suzanne, and Jacqueline Rogers and her husband Hunter; Theresa M.; Barbara J. Munday and husband Michael; John M., his children Colby, Audrey, and Jack; and Kathryn E. Imbrogna and husband Joseph, and their children Dominic and Kason. She was predeceased by her husband John Robert “Jack”, her daughter Cheryl A., and her sisters Doris Rooney and Mary Cullinane. She is also survived by her sister Marion McDuffee and her husband Robert, her sister Winifred Kirby, and numerous loving brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. 

Barbara loyally served the Town of Rowley as Assistant Town Clerk for 32 years and as a member of the Board of Registrars. She was a faithful communicant of Saint Mary’s Parish of Rowley for over 50 years. Despite living in Rowley for over 50 years, she always believed she was a "newcomer" until recently discovering that her 8th great grandparents were original settlers of Rowley.  Her 8th great grandfather, Francis Parratt, coincidentally served as the first Town Clerk of Rowley. One of her greatest joys was treating her grandchildren to breakfast at Norm’s or the Village Pancake House or to lunch at the Agawam Diner.

Barbara will be remembered as a wonderful woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, mentor, and community servant.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the compassionate care given by the dedicated staff at Anna Jaques Hospital & Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 11AM at St.Mary's Church, 202 Main Street, Rowley. A private interment will  immediately follow at the Rowley Burial Ground. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
