Alfred “Al” Patrick McGrath, age 92, of Rowley, died peacefully at Masconomet Health Care in Topsfield on Thursday, April 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
“Al” was a dependable, intelligent, and caring man. He worked as a Train Conductor on the MBTA for 30 years while raising his four sons in Foxboro. He later became a custodian at Westwood and Rowley Public Libraries, where he shared his love of books with those he worked with.
An avid reader of mystery novels, he also shared his love of words playing countless games of Scrabble and doing crossword puzzles with his eldest son, Joe. Like all his sons, “Al” was also a sports fanatic. He spent much time enjoying Boston games, and almost never missed an opportunity to watch his grandchildren play the sports that they loved.
“Al” was a lover of a good meal, good conversation, and good music, and spent much time outside doing yard work. Most of all though, he loved his family who loved him just as much.
“Al” is predeceased by his loving wife, Anne (Mahoney) McGrath, and son, Joseph McGrath. Who he loved dearly.
Survivors include Daughter-in-Law, Nancy McGrath, widow of Joseph McGrath, Son, Robert and wife Anna, Son, Kevin and partner Kim, Son, Justin and wife Rosie. Grandchildren; Daniel, Stephanie, Christina, Julianna, Andrew, Cassandra. Great-Granddaughter; Lyla.
Pallbearers: Robert McGrath, Kevin McGrath, Justin McGrath, Daniel McGrath, Michael Zdzieblo, and Jonathan Schlecht.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 15, from 9 – 11 a.m., at F. S. Roberts & Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent St., Rowley, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Mary Parish, 196 Main St., Rowley at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Rowley Burial Ground will follow.
