Karin K. Smith

Karin K. Smith, age 50, of Rowley, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Born in Holyoke, MA, on May 8, 1967, she was the daughter of Patricia (Kingsley) Smith and the late Gary Frederick Smith.

Karin was a wonderful, caring Nurse who gave all she had to advocating for and caring for her elderly patients across several long-term care and short-term rehab facilities. Karin was a guardian angel of the most vulnerable of our population. Family always came first to Karin, and she always enjoyed cooking for her family. Her son Ryan especially enjoyed the deviled eggs she would often make at holidays and her daughter Kayla loved her mom's French toast.  She gave everything she had, in spite of the illness towards the end of her life, to doing everything that she possibly could for her beloved grandson Elvis Brun.  She loved taking him to the pond, the beach, and she loved reading bedtime stories to him at night.  Karin made everything and everyone around her better.  She was a selfless person, and she never once complained about anything, despite the fact that she was diagnosed with a progressive incurable cancer. 

Besides her mother Patricia Smith, she is survived by her son, Ryan Whisman, of Salisbury, MA, her daughter, Kayla Guilbault of Rowley, her daughter-in-law Kayla Whisman, two brothers, Gregory Smith and Gary Smith of Holyoke, her sister, Susan Smith of Holyoke, her grandson, Elvis Brun, two nephews, Nicholas Shenas, Jagger Smith, and beloved friends, Mark Behenna and Julie Jamgochian.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the F. S. Roberts & Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
