John T. Karahalis

John T. Karahalis, 106, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2016 at Country Center for Health & Rehabilitation in Newburyport. He was Newbury’s oldest resident, and the current holder of the Boston Post Cane. John was the husband of the late Ruth (Good) Karahalis and Gertrude R. (Frothingham) Karahalis. Born in Boston on May 1, 1910, John was the son of the late Theodore and Peyie (Maniatakos) Karahalis.John worked many years as a Medical Technician for National Laboratories in Lexington, MA before his retirement. He was a member of the Newbury Conservation Commission, Newbury Historical Commission, and the former Quascacunquen Grange. He was the oldest member of John T. Heard Masonic Lodge in Ipswich. John enjoyed trap, skeet and pigeon shooting with travels taking him to distant locations including Mexico and England. John is survived by his son, Harry Karahalis and wife Stephanie of Byfield; daughter, Lee Bernier and husband Wayne of Byfield; grandchildren, Thomas Bernier, Michelle Petryk, Amy Ricker, Jason Karahalis and Chad Karahalis, and four great-grandchildren. John’s family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Country Rehabilitation for the kind and dedicated service in caring for their father’s needs. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service on Saturday, November 5th, at 4:00 p.m. at the F.S. Roberts & Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley.
