Our thoughts and prayers go out the Hilde's family. Hilde was a wonderful friend and neighbor. She is one of the people that made up the fabric of the East End. Hilde had a marvelous sense of humor and always too the time to stop and chat. She would walk her dog around the neighborhood dressed to the nines and looking sharp! She always had some humerous adventure to talk about like the time when she tried to free a dog from being tangled and she wound up struck in the bushes. Hilde also had a serious side and her stories about Germany during World War II were intriguing and provided a European perspective on the war. She always spoke of her beloved husband Bob and now they will be together again. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. St Peter will be popping the cork on heaven's best bottle of bubbly welcoming Hilde into heaven.

Hilda was a dear sweet woman and friend. We bonded right away as we had both lost our husbands. She was the strongest and the most fragile person I know, alone for over 40 years yet everyday she got dressed, put on her makeup and jewelry and put one foot in front of the other. We spent many hours talking about her life in Germany, when Bob was Chief and her house was dispatch, and how she managed when he was gone. She had a very risque sense of humor and was one of the funniest people I've ever known. She adored her fur babies and loved taking them for rides to Richdale or Ipswich and walking them around the neighborhood. Hilda loved to cook and was always giving me things to try and take home (because she only knew how to cook for a family!). I remember once when a batch of cookie dough did not come out right and she threw it up on the roof for the birds- and as it melted the chocolate chips were dripping down over the door -she could make me laugh ! She talked to her sister Ursula in Germany twice a week and the times she came here to visit were the happiest I ever saw her. I will miss her horribly but she is finally at peace, with her parents, brothers and Bob. No more pain or anxiety. I am a better person for having known her. Rest in peace dear friend.

Thank you, Nancy. I remember the cookies-on-the-roof incident! I don't think that was the only thing she threw up there over the years. It's hard to believe she's gone.
