Barbara E. (Cunningham) Rogers, 74, lifelong resident of Newbury, passed away February 21, 2024, at Anna Jaques Hospital of Newburyport.
Barbara was born on September 4th, 1949 in Newbury, the daughter of Richard Cunningham and Dorothy (Chick) Cunningham. Barbara graduated from Newburyport High School with honors in 1967.
She married Larry Rogers of Byfield on December 23rd, 1972. They had two children, Harold and Bernard. She worked at Lucent Technologies in North Andover, formerly AT&T and Western Electric. She retired after a full career.
Barbara was an avid genealogist, traveling all over New England to libraries and cemeteries for her research. She was a proud member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Daughters of the American Revolution and the First Settlers of Newbury. Additionally, she was interested in local history and politics. But her biggest love of all was her grandchildren. Each year, as a family tradition, she took the grandchildren to Clark's Trading Post. She often would show up at their houses unannounced with baked goods and treats. She loved birthdays and Christmas, showering them with gifts.
Barbara Rogers is survived by her longtime partner, Ward Westhafer; her son Harold, his wife Christine; and grandchildren Abigail and Benjamin of Salem NH; and son Bernard, his wife Emily; and grandchildren Courtney, Brook and Maximus of Byfield. Also surviving Barbara are her two sisters Wilma of Newbury and Alice of Framingham; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers Stephen and James of Newbury.
