ROWLEY: Lawrence "Lonnie" Brockelbank, 76, of Rowley,
passed away suddenly Friday evening at the Anna
Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was pre-deceased
by his wife Elinor E. (Carter) Brockelbank.
Lonnie was born in Ipswich, April 27, 1934 son of the
late Chester G. and Florence (Davey) Brockelbank.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the
U.S. Navy. Lonnie and his wife, owned and operated
Lonnells Restaurant in Rowley for many years,
retiring and selling the business in 1987.
Lonnie was an active member of the community; he was a
former member of the Rowley Reserve Police Department,
a past member of the Rowley V.F.W. Post #5707 and
former member of the Rowley Veteran's Association; a
life member of the AMVETS Post 201 in Ipswich; former
member of the Ipswich Fish & Game Association; former
member of the Rowley Finance Committee; former member
of the Rowley Council on Aging and the Treasurer; he
was a Fence Viewer for the Town of Rowley; and
former Manager and Assistant Manager of the VFW in
Rowley. Lonnie enjoyed woodworking, gardening,
hunting, fishing and enjoying a cold one at the "W"
with his good buddy Charlie Davis.
He is survived by his sons, Stanton Woodbury and his wife Paula of
Michigan and Gerald Pratt and his wife Barbara of Danville, NH; two
daughters, Alice Waas and her husband Wendal of Texas
and Laurie Smith and her husband Edward of Cairo,
Egypt; 2 brothers, George Brockelbank of Florida ;
and Ernest "Spike" Brockelbank of Ipswich; a sister,
Florence "Teddy" Marshall of Ipswich. He is also
leaves 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife
Elinor, he was pre-deceased by 3 brothers, Norman
Brockelbank ,Chester Brockelbank and Robert
Brockelbank and a sister Helen Brockelbank.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 11, 2010
at 11:00 AM in the F.S. Roberts and Son Funeral
Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley. A period of
visitation will be held Thursday 4-7:00 PM at the
funeral home. Burial will be in the Main Street
Cemetery, Rowley. |
