ROWLEY,MA: William L. Hawkesworth, III, 78, of Rowley, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his home with his loving family by his side.  He was the husband of Susan (Perley) Hawkesworth with whom he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Bill attended the Rowley Public Schools and Ipswich High School. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served
with the U.S. Army.

He became a finished carpenter working in the Ipswich area for many years. He also worked for Spuds Restaurant performing maintenance and for The First National Bank of Ipswich in the same capacity. It saddened him to retire in 2006 due to his health.

He was a private pilot, owning his own plane and flying out of the Plum Island Airport. He was a member of the Antique Airplane Association and the A.O.P.A. He was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Bill’s Motto was “I’d rather be flying."

Bill was a devoted family man who took great enjoyment from spending time with his granddaughters. He enjoyed his frequent trips to the coffee shop, the outdoors, traveling up country, camping, and antique tractor shows.

In addition to his wife Susan, he is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Hawkesworth and her companion Charles Rousseau of Newbury and Christine and her husband Daniel Marshall of Salisbury; his brother, Richard Hawkesworth of Houston, TX and his sister Anne Green of Lubbock, TX. He also leaves his twin granddaughters, Courtney and Caitlyn Marshall of Salisbury and several nieces, nephews and his loving cat, Muffy.

Dear Hawkesworth families

My deepest condolence for your loss. I wish that I could have met Bill when my wife and I were in New England in August of 2009. I am a grand nephew of Helen Rogers and just learned of your loss from our cousin John R. Reilly. I am also a private pilot and would have enjoyed some "hanger flying" stories with Bill.

Sincerely,
Lon R. Rogers
