Hap Winslow- 79

Rowley, MA:  Ralph Morgan Winslow-- Known to all as "Hap", passed away at his home April 20, 2012, surrounded by his adoring family.  Hap was born March 20, 1933 to Laura and Alfred Winslow in Lynn, MA.  He was a proud graduate of Lynn English High School, 1950.  He attended Dartmouth College, 1954 and Amos Tuck School, 1955.  In 1955 he started his career with IBM selling typewriters and after 38 years he retired as an Executive Salesman in computers and a member of the 100% club.  Hap was an avid skier, having mastered the slopes of New England, NY, UT, NV, ID, CA and Zermatt, Switzerland.  He loved family gatherings, tennis, splitting wood, fishing, canoeing and the "great out-doors". He fostered these passions as an Eagle Scout Master in his children, grandchildren, and troop # 14 of Lynn, MA.
Those who knew him best will remember his boundless love of family, his passion for reading and music, the Golden Rule, "First Today", Turkey Trots, his home, and the barn.  Along with his best friend and "soul mate", Helen "Fitzie" Winslow, Hap is survived by his 4 daughters and their spouses: Kathleen Winslow and Erik Prussman of Rowley; AnnMarie and Nate Keliher of Amesbury; Marty and John Blanchard of Rowley; Elizabeth and Mark (Ned) Smith of Skagway, AK; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Collins Winslow of Merrimac; his son Stephen and Cindy Winslow of Lynn; his brother Steve and Val Winslow of Lynnfield, and all of his grandchildren, Kyla Prussman, Jaden, Camden, and Griffin Keliher, Athena and Addison Smith, Joseph and Julia Winslow, and Derek Winslow. Hap was predeceased by his son David Daniel Winslow and his sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and Tom Carroll.
His memory, spirit and ideals will live on with everyone who had the honor and privilege to know and love him.
Arrangements:  Calling hours will be 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday April 24th at the F.S. Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley.  Hap’s funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Church, Main Street (Rt1A) in Rowley at 10 am on Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

To the Winslow family:
My name is Margaret Noonan Driscoll. My mother is Mary Fay (Morgan) Noonan. Her brother Frank was one of Ralph''s dear friends from Lynn. My grandparents had a camp on Crystal Lake in Gilmanton, NH and I and my siblings have fond memories of Ralph''s visits to camp with our Uncle Frank. I spoke with my mother earlier today and she shared many stories of growing up in Lynn (on Beacon Hill Avenue) with the Winslow''s who lived a couple of streets over. Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your husband, father and grandfather.

I saw the notice of Hap’s passing, and wanted to share a memory I had of working with him. I was working at Apollo Computer in the 1980’s as a Purchasing Agent. I had the pleasure (and I mean that sincerely) of interacting with Hap. The details of that interaction are a little fuzzy. There was some difficulty. The Apollo payment machinery was malfunctioning, causing delayed payments to IBM. Hap and I worked together to solve the problem. What I recall about Hap was his genuine nature and gentlemanly professionalism. In my role there, I interacted with many different salespeople, but none were like Hap. Working with Hap was a singular pleasure, and made me smile every time I would greet him in the lobby. (I seem to recall him driving up in his antique pickup truck?). My condolences and my thanks for sharing Hap with me for a bit.

Fitzie & family:

My sincere condolences to you and your family.

We were neighbors on Cleveland Avenue in Saugus for many years

My brother and I were recently reminiscing about our growing up in Lynnhurst and our fond memories of your family.

May Hap lie in eternal peace, with those who have gone before him.

To share from very fond memories of Mr. Winslow/Hap,

Many a gathering would be brought to an end in a circle, arms around each other''s shoulders, with Hap leading all in singing:
I will always love you
As I do today
I''ll be happy with you
Sad when you''re away
And when the golden summer
Turns to Autumn gray
I will always love you
As I do today

I hope I got all the words right

Wishing you all peace and the comfort of each other as you remember the happiest memories.

A great man I will always remember and smile.

And just when you thought he was done, "They cut it down!"

Love,

Mike T.

Dear Winslow Family,

My prayers and those of all my family go out to you all at this time. I am sorry I could not be there to console you and grieve with you all.. Our lives were all touched by your husband and father and our dear friend, Mr. Winslow. He will be dearly, dearly missed. He blessed us with his love, laughter, his caring grace, and wonderful stories and adventures that kept us together and believing in what mattered most, family and friends.

Mr. Winslow, I will never forget you!!! ''The sun is brighter at my window now, and the flowers at the door more dear and full of promise simply because I had a friend like you…Thank you for all the great memories!

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand

May God’s love and peace comfort you all….

Love always,
your life-long friend and neighbor,

Joel Taplin
