AMESBURY: Mary C. “Carolyn” (Jacobs) Young, 89, of Amesbury and formerly of Gloucester, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 22, 2012 at Amesbury Village in Amesbury with her family by her side. She was the widow of George Young and Herbert C. Batten.
Mrs. Young was born September 2, 1922 in Gloucester to her parents George Sr. and Mary (Kelly) Jacobs.
She graduated from St. Ann’s High School in Gloucester and went on to have a career as a dietician at the Addison-Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester. Among her interests was square dancing and making jewelry. She also loved to sing and sang at several local churches.
Mary “Carolyn” is survived by her two sons and a daughter; sons Peter G. Batten of Alexandria, VA; David J. and his wife Barbara Batten of Merrimack, NH and her daughter Ann-Marie and her husband Henry Grissino of Wake Forest, NC. She also leaves three grandchildren, Casey Batten, Daniel Batten and Lian Grissino. She was predeceased by her brother George Jacobs, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 10:00AM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 9 Jewett Street, Georgetown, MA. Burial will immediately follow in the Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester, MA.There will be no calling hours.
